How to Clear Cache on Android

How to Clear Cache on Android

Over time, cache data accumulates on your Android device. Some of this data becomes outdated or unnecessary, which can slow down your device. Restarting the phone may help temporarily, but clearing the cache can significantly improve your device's speed.

1. View All Installed Apps

Open Settings, then go to Storage and tap on Apps. Alternatively, search for Apps in the Settings search bar.

2. Clear Cache for Each App

Tap on the app you installed (do not modify system services), then select "Storage and cache" and tap "Clear cache".

Do not tap "Clear storage" if you do not want to reset the app completely.

3. Repeat for Other Apps

Repeat this process for apps that use a lot of storage. Start with social media or streaming apps that generate a lot of data.

Some Android versions also allow you to see which apps are consuming the most space. Tap the three vertical dots (⋮) in the top-right corner and select "Sort by Size".

How to Clear Cache in Google Chrome

You need the Chrome app on an Android 16 device.

1. Open Chrome History Settings

Open Chrome, tap the three vertical dots (⋮), then go to History and select Clear Browsing Data.

2. Select Data to Clear

Choose the Time Range and tick "Cached images and files" (and any other data you want to delete), then tap "Clear data".

Each option explains its effect. For example, deleting "Cookies and site data" may log you out from websites, while "Cached images and files" may make pages load slightly slower the next time.

3. Shortcut Option

In newer Android versions, tap the menu button in Chrome and select 'Clear Browsing Data'. A pop-up will ask which time range of data you want to clear.

If you choose 'More Options', you will reach the 'Browsing Data' screen where you can select the data type and time range to clear.
